Entering summer typically brings a wave of new seasonal opportunities to businesses both large and small. Chances for sales based on holidays are excellent! But have you thought about making a difference with those extra bucks you bring in? Memorial Day brought many reflections for my family, and those parts of the day have snowballed into this thought I’m sharing.
Obviously, as a local business owner I can understand how hard it is to give up even a single penny from days full of hard work, sleepless nights, and countless hours on the phone. However, as a local business owner, I can also understand the crucial need to support your community and those that are offering their lives in exchange for a basic paycheck. Our background is highly influenced by military enlistment, and to read day after day that Veterans aren’t getting the proper care they need* is just heart-wrenching.
Maybe this just hit home for me, but I’m sure you all can resonate with me here on some level – all people deserve help and if you have the capability to do it, don’t be lazy. DO IT. Give back, make someone smile, help someone without expecting even a thank you. Too often I’ve found myself with clothes that need donated or things that could be given away to help others in need just sitting around my house when I could have easily taken less than an hour out of my day to drop them off at a place that will literally take care of the rest of the donation process for me.
This is just a thought that ran across my mind today in observation of the weekends activities, and I’m not trying to preach – everyone fights their own silent battles. So give what you can, when you can. And if you can’t, I suppose it’s the thought that counts. 🙂
*We are aware that tons of people all over the world are not being properly cared for, we’re just focusing in on one group in this particular post.
